Soprano Elin Rombo and violinist Anders Kjellberg Nilsson visit Kungsbacka Piano Trio!

Elin Rombo is a Swedish court singer and successful opera singer around Sweden and the world. She also often performs as a romance singer and will here sing songs by Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn. Anders Kjellberg Nilsson is a Swedish-Norwegian violinist and 1st concertmaster in the Royal Court Orchestra.

Clara Schumann, composer and one of the most prominent pianists of her time. She composed orchestral works, a number of piano works and beautiful romances for soprano and piano. She was a famous musician and when Clara later became the wife of the composer Robert Schumann, he was asked* “Are you also a musician, like your wife?”*

Clara Schumann also premiered many of her husband Robert’s works.

In January 1832, Felix Mendelssohn wrote to his sister Fanny Mendelssohn about writing a work where the piano takes a more active role in relation to the violin and cello. Felix finished his first piano trio in 1839 and it was immediately a success.

Robert Schumann wrote: *”This is the master trio of our time, like Beethoven’s B-flat and C major trios and Schubert’s E-flat major trio in their time. It is an extraordinarily fine composition that will delight our grandchildren and great-grandchildren for many years to come.”*

Fanny Mendelssohn, composer and pianist, wrote over 460 works, including over 250 songs. She was taught composition for a long time together with her younger brother Felix. Despite Fanny’s great musical ability, she was referred to devote it as a pleasure, however, it could become Felix’s profession. Among other things, six of her songs were published in her brother’s name. The year before she died in 1847, despite the family’s hesitation, she published a collection of songs as her Opus 1.

When Robert Schuman finished his piano quartet in 1842, he had written five large-scale chamber music works in the space of six months. Robert dedicated the quartet for piano, violin, viola and cello to cellist Mathieu Wielhorsky, but it was written with his wife Clara in mind as pianist at the premiere in Leipzig in December 1844.

In 2027, Kungsbacka Piano Trio celebrates 30 years. They are starting the celebration as early as 2025 and 2026 with a season as Artist-in-Residence here in Uppsala. Since its inception, the trio has had a prominent role on the Swedish stages and made an impressive international career. With this unique residency creation, the trio takes the opportunity to summarize its 30 years. In the series, the program items are carefully selected works that have meant a lot to the ensemble and to the members as individual musicians.
