Program
Gustav Mahler (1860-1911): Blumine
Richard Strauss (1864-1949): Vier Letzte Lieder
Mahler: Symphony No. 4 in G major
The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra is back with Gustav Mahler’s fantastic, powerful and emotional music.
First up is the beautiful Blumine, which was previously part of Mahler’s First Symphony. He concludes with his Fourth Symphony, a consistently bright and lyrical symphony, at times even playful, even though death plays its depressed violin in the second movement. In the last movement, we meet the evening’s soloist, the distinguished soprano Agneta Eichenholz, who sings about the poor child’s vision of heavenly life.
Between Mahler’s two works, Agneta Eichenholz sings Richard Strauss’ “Vier letzte Lieder”, the last song he composed shortly before his death in 1949. All four songs have lyrics about farewell and death, but they are nevertheless among the most beautiful orchestral songs ever written. Leading the evening’s program is French conductor Maxime Pascal.
The concert is part of Musik i Uppland’s Orchestra Series – Grand Subscription
