About the Performance
With roots in contemporary jazz and free improvisation, Iiris Viljanen presents music from his instrumental piano album “So Much of You Was Sleeping”, released in the fall of 2025. We open the season in Jazzhörnan with a solo concert where the works are allowed to breathe, change and sometimes take unexpected directions – music in constant motion between structure and spontaneity.
It is an intuitive interplay between time, sound and space. Hanging grooves, shimmering soundscapes and wordless vocals that sometimes creep out like a whisper meet here.
After Viljanens piano solo debut at the Nationalmuseum during the Stockholm Jazz Festival, DN’s PO Tidholm wrote: “It’s hard not to think of Keith Jarrett’s classic Cologne album […] It’s comforting, friendly and warm”. In the music magazine Lira, the reviewer exclaimed: “there is no doubt whatsoever that this is the best album of the fall”!
Finland-Swedish Iiris Viljanen is constantly relevant in new contexts and formats. She broke through with the indie pop band Vasas Flora och Fauna in the early 2010s and has since built a successful solo career with five albums under her own name, including the Grammy-nominated “Själsligt uppvaknande vid Slussen” (2024). Now she is embarking on a new artistic chapter – as open as it is profound.
