About the Performance
The multi-talented guitarist, composer, arranger and producer Johan Lindström moves in a musical world all of his own, where influences spread in all directions. Calling it jazz is too narrow – even though the band consists of some of the country’s foremost jazz musicians, such as woodwind players Per Texas Johansson and Jonas Kullhammar, drummer Konrad Agnas and several of Johan Lindström’s hand-picked favorites from the jazz scene.
Sure, there’s jazz, but there’s also so much more: nods to art music and film music, mixed with lush brass and bold solos reminiscent of Mingus and Ellington. Here and there are also fragments of rock and country. The suggestive slips unnoticed into the boundlessly wild. Genres, time and space cross seamlessly. Like a kaleidoscope of tones and impulses – always with precision and a sound all its own.
Their debut album “Music for Empty Halls” (2018) was unanimously acclaimed, far beyond both national and genre borders. The album was nominated for a Grammy and the septet was named Group of the Year at Swedish Radio’s Swedish Jazz Celebration. Their second album, “On the Asylum”, featured Elvis Costello and was awarded a Grammy for Jazz of the Year 2022.
In May they will finally come to UKK and Jazzhörnan with the music from the latest album “Humankind”, by far the band’s biggest venture to date. The album was recorded in the legendary Atlantis studio – completely without compromise. Don’t miss the chance to experience the music live!
Since the 1990s, Johan Lindström has been one of our most sought-after musicians and producers. He is a member of the supergroup Tonbruket and has produced acclaimed albums with artists such as Lisa Nilsson, Ane Brun, Isabella Lundgren, Rebecka Törnqvist and Weeping Willows.
