Program
An unusual and scenically strong concert where acting and music meet in a dramatic interplay.
The evening begins with one of the most beloved works in music history: Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”. The Funäs Chamber Soloists perform this classic in a lively and poetic interpretation, with actor Johan Rabaeus weaving in texts and reflections between movements, opening up new perspectives on Vivaldi’s music. The soloist is the internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Massimo Quarta, winner of the prestigious Paganini Competition and a regular guest at the world’s major concert halls.
After intermission, ‘Report on the Blind’ features world-renowned actor John Malkovich reciting from Argentinian author Ernesto Sabato ‘s novel On Heroes and Tombs. The text depicts one man’s dark and intense search for the origin of evil in the world.
Malkovich’s strong stage presence meets Alfred Schnittke’s expressive ‘Concerto for Piano and Strings’, performed by The Funäs Chamber Soloists with the distinguished pianist Anastasya Terenkova and conductor Alexander Gordon. The result is a gripping artistic whole where music and drama merge into a powerful experience.
About Report on the Blind
The work is based on a famous passage from Ernesto Sabato’s novel On Heroes and Tombs – a psychological and philosophical story about the inner struggle of man and the dark shadows of society. Together with Schnittke’s music, it creates an intense and evocative stage experience where words and sound deepen each other.
