About Finland’s Independence Day
Finland’s National Day is also known as Independence Day, as it was on December 6, 1917 that Finland declared its independence from Russia. The celebration honors the memory of those who lost their lives in the fight for independence.
In Sweden, the day is celebrated by and for the large group of Finnish speakers who have moved to Sweden for a long time. Finnish is one of the national minority languages in Sweden and Uppsala municipality is a Finnish administrative area.
Presented by Uppsala Municipality in collaboration with Rusukki, the Swedish Finns Language and Culture Association in Uppsala, the Church of Sweden and Uppsala Konsert & Kongress
