Uppsala Konsert & Kongress, in collaboration with EldeenJohansson Produktion, proudly presents the musical classic RENT – in an acclaimed concert version that is guaranteed to leave an impression. Experience one of the most beloved pop and rock musicals of all time, where powerful riffs meet sweet ballads and iconic ensemble numbers like the immortal “Seasons of Love”.

The musical in concert form

Director and choreographer Melker Sörensen and his team have created a grand concert experience of the entire musical – with the complete song list and lines in Swedish. All the characters are on stage in full costume, surrounded by rugged city scenery and atmospheric lighting. It’s RENT – effectively told, raw, intimate and with the music at the center.

The strong ensemble consists of some of Sweden’s leading musical artists, who together with a tight rock band will make the whole UKK vibrate.

About RENT

When RENT premiered on Broadway in 1996, it was a smash hit – and this year marks 30 years since it changed the musical world forever. Inspired by Puccini’s La bohème, American composer and screenwriter Jonathan Larson set the story in a New York City brownstone in the late 1980s, a time of change when the old had to go, poverty had to be eliminated and hippies had to make way for yuppies.
Here we meet Roger, Mimi, Mark, Angel and the others who are fighting for their art, their dreams and their survival in a reality where the disease AIDS is constantly threatening. Meanwhile, their old friend Benny tries to evict them – they no longer fit into the new world emerging in their beloved town.
With its gripping story and emotional score, RENT was an instant hit, running for 5,123 performances over 12 years on Broadway. It won four Tony Awards and has since been performed in 25 languages in over 50 countries.
