About the Performance
Lunch Concert at UKK – Entertaining, Short and Sweet
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Sonja Åkesson’s birth, Annika Fehling gives voice to one of the most significant and distinctive Swedish poets of the 20th century. With the performance Åkessonger, Åkesson’s poetry is given new life in a musical form, in a performance close to the audience that also forms the basis for a new album.
“Sonja is real. She describes life as it is, wonderful, hard as hell, scary, wonderful, difficult, dark and anxious, but also very funny and crazy. It has been a pleasure to dive into her vast production and let inspiration lead my music where it wanted to go,” says Annika Fehling.
Sonja Åkesson wrote about everyday experiences with a precision that was unparalleled in her time. With seemingly simple language, she exposed power structures, gender roles and class, often with a dry humor that contained both warmth and anger. Today, a hundred years after her birth, her poetry seems strikingly contemporary.
Annika Fehling, an established singer-songwriter and performing artist, approaches Åkesson’s lyrics with care and artistic integrity. The settings are stripped down and sensitive; they carry the text rather than interpret it over the head. The result is a musical performance that moves between concert, stage poetry and literary interpretation.
It’s not about modernizing Åkesson, but about listening. To let the language resonate in a new space.
The Food
For lunch, a warm soup with toast is served, prepared with carefully selected ingredients. The lunch can be collected at the bar on the 3rd floor, and can be enjoyed either before or during the performance. Of course, you are welcome to bring the food into Hall B! With fold-out tables at each seat, you can relax and enjoy both food and entertainment.
