About the Performance
Louisa Lyne & di Yiddishe Kapelye present a soulful and heartfelt concert program where Leonard Cohen’s Jewish heritage comes to the fore. Newly written songs inspired by Cohen’s poems are interwoven with some of his most beloved classics – all in Yiddish.
It will be a unique musical encounter where the poet’s words are given a new expression and brought one step closer to his Jewish roots. The program paints a nuanced picture of Jewish culture, with warmth and artistic power. A tribute to Leonard Cohen’s life’s work, ten years after his death.
About the band
Louisa Lyne & di Yiddishe Kapelye is one of Europe’s leading contemporary Yiddish music bands. Since their debut in 2012, the group has created a musical world of its own, where klezmer meets folk, pop and world music, and where Yiddish is placed in a new and vibrant context. Singer Louisa Lyne, born in Härnösand, is a leading interpreter of Yiddish and its rich singing tradition. Through passion, study and artistic curiosity, she has immersed herself in the Yiddish musical heritage and developed an expressive voice that has touched audiences far beyond Sweden’s borders. The band’s concerts are characterized by presence, musical warmth and a strong narrative.
In 2019, Louisa won the international competition Der Yiddisher Idol in Mexico City. In SVT’s series Folkets musik, the group’s Yiddish interpretation of The Ark’s “It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane (S’nemt a nar)” was praised, and in 2022 Louisa participated in SVT’s National Day celebrations at Skansen. In the same year, the band’s fourth album A troym oyf a boym was released, which was awarded the Manifest Gala’s prize for Children’s Music of the Year 2023
