About the Performance
Bill Laurance is a classically trained pianist and composer, but his music has always transcended genre boundaries. As one of the founders of Snarky Puppy, he has helped shape the group’s distinctive blend of jazz, funk, and other contemporary styles for many years. At the same time, he has developed his own musical language in which the piano serves as the common thread and where the composed and the improvised come together naturally.
In addition to his solo career, Laurance has collaborated with artists and ensembles such as David Crosby, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, the WDR Big Band, and the Metropole Orkest. Together with his Snarky Puppy bandmate Michael League, he has also released the acclaimed album *Where You Wish You Were*. On *Affinity*, he turns his attention to one of jazz history’s greatest pianists, Bill Evans, but does so in his own way—with a personal style that continues to navigate between tradition and new musical possibilities.
