About the Performance
Artistic evolution. If you’re looking for an example of this, Ane Brun’s musical journey is a textbook case. When the Norwegian artist made her debut about 20 years ago with the excellent debut album “Spending Time With Morgan,” she was an unquestionably talented exponent of raw, acoustic indie-folk. Today, Ane Brun has expanded far beyond both genres and labels. She has boldly ventured into orchestral pop, electronic experiments, heart-wrenching interpretations, and sparse, narrative-driven piano music—always with unfiltered authenticity and a striking lack of compromise—an achievement that has made Ane one of the most acclaimed artists in all of Scandinavia. With her unique position, having both Sweden and Norway as her home countries, she has been honored, praised, and celebrated on both sides of the border—including two Swedish Grammis Awards for both Best Alternative Pop and Composer of the Year, as well as several Norwegian Spelleman Awards.
The last time Ane Brun released full-length studio albums was in 2020, when she released the two fantastic albums “After The Great Storm” and “How Beauty Holds The Hand Of Sorrow.” But that doesn’t mean she’s been sitting still—quite the opposite. The past six years have been intense. She has toured extensively, performed at festivals, and completed two European tours, the most recent in 2023, when she celebrated 20 years as an artist. She has also spent two seasons on the stage of the Gothenburg Opera in the production “12 Songs,” where Kenneth Kvarnström interpreted her music with the opera’s orchestra and dance company, featuring original choreography and spectacular set design.
At the same time, she has released a lot of music: “Nærmere,” an album of Norwegian versions of her own songs; the compilation albums “Portrayals” and “Songs 2013–2023”; and the live album “20th Anniversary Tour.” And in the meantime, she has also written and co-produced her first studio album in six years.
With the singles released so far—”Hand in the Fire,” “Two in This Story,” “Hold Me,” and the latest, the Röyksopp collaboration “Eat The Fruit”—Ane Brun is turning a new page and beginning a new chapter in a musical journey that has spanned over 20 years. The album “I Thought We Were the Same” revolves around trust and betrayal, both on a personal level and in terms of how trust in general can falter in an era of AI, deepfakes, and geopolitical instability. A few months after the release of her new album, Ane Brun will embark on an extensive tour of the Nordic region—with several stops in Sweden and Norway, as well as stops in Helsinki and Copenhagen.
The upcoming album can be seen as a continuation of 2020’s “After The Great Storm,” featuring a broader soundscape and a more pop-oriented sound—a world that will be further amplified on stage as Ane Brun invites listeners into her ever-evolving musical universe.
