About the Event
Summer at UKK wraps up with a world-class dance party at Vaksala Square during Culture Night on September 12!
We’re celebrating together with the cultural organization Selam and two international superstars: Nigerian Afropop maestro Mr. Eazi and London-based DJ and artist Skyla Tylaa, who blends jazzy house, R&B, and electronic influences.
Behind the turntables, we’ll find DJ LvLv and the Diaspora collective ( JZMN & LIL SHIIT), who will transform the square into Uppsala’s biggest dance floor!
Mr. Eazi
Mr. Eazi is the Grammy-winning artist and visionary who has helped define the modern Afropop scene. Born in Port Harcourt and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, he has created his own genre and sound—Banku music—where Afrobeats meets highlife and R&B. Following collaborations with artists such as Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin, and performances at festivals like Coachella, Mr. Eazi has become one of the biggest voices in Afrobeats.
Skyla Tylaa
During Culture Night, Mr Eazi will share the stage with Skyla Tylaa, the DJ and artist who has quickly established herself as one of the most exciting names in Afro-electronic music and amapiano, the smooth, jazzy house music. With her infectious groove and strong stage presence, she has gone from local club gigs to international festivals like Afro Nation and Wireless Festival. Her pulsating mix of club music, Afrobeats, and dancefloor rhythms makes her the obvious choice to close out this late-summer party night in Uppsala.
Together, Mr Eazi and Skyla Tylaa are treating Uppsala residents to a vibrant finale where Afrobeats, amapiano, and international club music come together in the heart of Uppsala.
Organizers
UKK x Selam
Uppsala Concert & Congress continues to develop its programming activities through collaboration with the music industry’s top expertise. The cultural organization Selam has since 1997 successfully broadened Swedish cultural life with music from Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and has taken Swedish music out into the world. The UKK x Selam collaboration, which began in 2022, is a multi-year initiative with the goal of presenting three to four major concert experiences in Uppsala per year.
The collaboration has so far resulted in concerts with, among others, Polar Prize winners Angélique Kidjo (Benin) and Youssou N’Dour (Senegal), Ethio-jazz legend Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopia), Orchestra Baobab (Senegal), Fatoumata Diawara (Mali), Brazilian superstar Marisa Monte, Spanish flamenco queen Estrella Morente and several of Cuba’s top salsa bands.
