About Future Day

The Future Competitiveness of Sweden and Uppsala

What stories have shaped our successes? Which companies have shaped the image of Sweden and Uppsala? And which ones will define the future? The world is changing rapidly. AI, climate change, geopolitics, new regulations, and shifting customer demands are reshaping the playing field for companies in nearly every industry. To stay one step ahead, we need to understand what’s happening—but also which stories about our companies and our communities influence how we’re perceived and what opportunities we have. Future Day 2026 is about looking ahead, understanding where developments are headed, and what role we ourselves can play. First, we’ll take a look at Sweden as a whole. Then, Uppsala.

8:00–9:30 a.m. | FOCUS: ALL OF SWEDEN

What story about Sweden will lead us into the future?
For a long time, Sweden has built an international reputation for innovation, technology, sustainability, creativity, and quality of life. Behind that image are companies, innovations, entrepreneurs, researchers, and ideas that have transformed both Sweden and the world.

But the story that brought us here doesn’t have to be the one that takes us forward.

What should Sweden be known for in 15 years? What will be our future competitive advantages? Which companies will shape the business community of the future? And what will it take for Sweden to continue to attract investment, talent, companies, and ideas?
Ivo Zander, a professor of entrepreneurship at Uppsala University, draws on the success factors that have historically shaped Swedish business and looks to the future.
Helny Sjöström of Atlas Copco and Erik Linderberg of Novo Nordisk offer international perspectives on what the sustainable transition means for competitiveness.
And together, we ask: Which Swedish companies are you proud of—and why?

9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | FOKUS UPPSALA

What story about Uppsala do we want to tell in 2041?
Uppsala is strongly associated with its university, its historical and cultural heritage, and its position in the life sciences. But that is the story of the Uppsala we already know.

At the same time, something new is emerging. Research is giving rise to companies, and entrepreneurs are developing new solutions in areas such as healthcare, energy, and sustainable transition. If we fast-forward 15 years—what do we want Uppsala to be known for?

Entrepreneur Björn Lindh shares his vision for Uppsala, the opportunities presented by the green transition, and the city of the future.

Helena Bovin, Marketing Director at Destination Uppsala, looks back on the Uppsala brand—what has shaped the city’s image and what Uppsala is associated with today.

Mats Målqvist from UUniFisummarizes this year’s work at SHIFT:SPACE and, together with some of the host companies, demonstrates how collaboration between business and research can lead to concrete solutions for sustainable transition.

Companies participating in “Allt ljus på Uppsala” will come together for a panel discussion on sustainable transition, the future of business, and what we can be proud of in Uppsala—and share with the wider world.
Future Day is a meeting place for new perspectives, conversations, connections, and collaborations.

Future Day 2026 is organized by Uppsala:2030 in collaboration with Uppsala Konsert & Kongress, Allt ljus på Uppsala, Uppsala University, Uppsala Vatten, LF Uppsala, Företagarna, Green Innovation Park, Södra Tornet, and others, with support from Världsklass Uppsala.
