About the Performance

The Ideal – Why Mental Health? On mental health, mental illness, and why we should feel so good

In the first public discussion of the fall, David Gyll, a district physician and editor of the newly published textbook *Care Without Value: Avoid Low-Value Care and Become a Wiser Clinician*, and Fredrika Sandell, Secretary General of Frisk & Fri — the National Association Against Eating Disorders — will share their thoughts on the question: Why mental health? What does mental health actually mean? What does it mean to be mentally unwell? And why should we really feel so good? The discussion will touch on screens, diagnoses, and identity formation. We’ll also talk about what it means to have a place in society and whether it’s even possible not to want to feel good.

About “The Ideal”

Do you also want to envision a different future? Do you also long for a different kind of public discourse? Are you curious about what philosophy has to do with it? Welcome to Det idéala!

“The Ideal” is a cultural project that promotes philosophical conversations in society. A philosophical conversation is distinguished by its focus on the questions, rather than the answers. A philosophical conversation also has clear guidelines and a facilitator who establishes and maintains the structure of the conversation. In this way, a philosophical conversation allows us to reflect on big and complex questions together.

As part of ” Det idéala,” public talks are held at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress.

The discussion lasts a total of two hours, and no prior knowledge is required. You are warmly invited to explore your ideas and ideals together with others and to discover what philosophy has to do with you and with public discourse.

“The Ideal ” is led by Malin Jörnvi, a philosopher.

This fall’s public talks are being held in collaboration with Uppsala Konsert & Kongress and Folkuniversitetet.
