About the Performance
For almost five decades, Jan-Olof Andersson has been one of the most appreciated stewards and innovators of the Swedish song. With deep roots in the Swedish folk song tradition, he has built a unique artistic work that includes singing, guitar playing, his own songs and compositions. He has also contributed with extensive educational work.
Since 1976, Jan-Olof has worked professionally with the Swedish song. He has collaborated with choirs, instrumental ensembles and big bands. He has also been an appreciated guest teacher at courses, seminars and trainings around the country.
Jan-Olof’s efforts have been recognized and he has been awarded several of the country’s foremost awards in the art of singing, including the Swedish Singing Prize, the Taubes Society’s Troubadour Prize, the Olrog Scholarship and the Ferlin Society’s Troubadour Prize.
At the Folk and World Music Gala, he received the award as Tradition Bearer of the Year, with the motivation that he “is a curious and creative explorer of a folk tradition with deep roots, while at the same time passing on his knowledge to new generations with great generosity”.
At today’s concert, we will hear songs from the Swedish songbook, our own songs and stories about a life characterized by music, meetings and curiosity.
“His performance is simple and unpretentious, nuanced, multi-faceted and with a total presence that mesmerizes.” Sid Jansson, Swedish troubadour, entertainer and songwriter
