About the Performance

The October Festival is a gathering for folk music in all its forms. UKK opens its doors at 12:00 p.m., and at 1:00 p.m., the musicians gather for a group jam session led by the renowned Uppland folk musicians Robert Larsson and Erika Lindgren Liljenstolpe. Throughout the day, a rich program awaits, with special attention given to children and young people, including performances by the Dalarna Youth Folk Music Ensemble and the Roslagen Youth Folk Music Ensemble. There will also be free workshops in music, singing, and dance, as well as the recurring feature “Guest Folk Musician of the Year,” where a prominent folk musician takes center stage for both music and conversation.

The performances showcase various aspects of the folk music tradition. Magdalena Eriksson performs the storytelling concert *Brita Kajsa*, in which violin and song intertwine with the story of Brita Kajsa Karlsdotter and the Anundsjö embroidery tradition in 19th-century Ångermanland. National folk musicians Pontus Estling and Sheshti Estling come together in a duet featuring the clarinet and violin, while Johan Hedin and Ida Meidell use the nyckelharpa and Baroque violin to blend music with roots in the 18th century with a contemporary expression.

Dancing continues throughout the evening to the music of both folk music ensembles and individual musicians. For those looking for a more intimate setting, there is “Lyhörd dans,” where soloists and small groups perform up close to the dancers. At 10:00 p.m., the energy level rises even further when Hoven Droven takes over Hall D with their powerful blend of Swedish folk music and rock. V-Dala Spelmanslag then keeps the music going until 01.00.

The current program and additional program items are posted regularly on uplandsspel.se.
