About the Performance

Children and young people from the county’s cultural schools have been preparing all fall to come together at the guitar festival, play together, and make music. Led by the highly inspiring guitar teacher Thomas Hansy, they’ll gather for a music camp featuring two of Sweden’s foremost musicians: guitar virtuoso Emil Ernebro and world champion harmonica player Filip Jers. The jazz ensemble from Wik Folkhögskola will also be participating again this year.

More about Emil Ernebro & Filip Jers

Ernebro and Jers are pushing the boundaries of what their instruments can do and sound like. Emil Ernebro’s fingerstyle guitar playing is of a high international standard, and Filip Jers has been called “The Swedish Harmonica Sensation” by international music journalists and has become a world champion in harmonica playing.

Their concerts are characterized by a joy of playing, spontaneity, and a lively groove. They play jazz, blues, folk, and world music, and share stories about their own journey into the world of music—from their first musical discoveries to life as full-time musicians. Through their music, they want to show how fun and inspiring it can be to play an instrument.

In the spring of 2019, they released their debut album, *Duet*, and that same summer, they performed on *Allsång på Skansen* in front of an audience of one million people on live television.

Thomas Hansy

The camp’s guest instructor, mentor, and conductor will be Thomas Hansy, one of Sweden’s most exciting educators. Thomas has been active as a guitarist, composer, and arranger with The Gothenburg Combo and has taught at the Gothenburg School of Culture since 2003. He has taught ensembles and students of all levels in Germany, Spain, Turkey, Estonia, Norway, Peru, Chile, the U.S., Mexico, China, Australia, at cultural schools throughout Sweden, and at the Uppsala Guitar Festival.

About “Making Music Together”

The Uppsala Guitar Festival’s “Create Music Together” project was launched in 2017 to lower the barriers to culture and music-making for children and young people. Through school tours, workshops, and music camps, the project reaches approximately 2,000 children and young people in Uppsala County each year. Since its inception, over 14,000 children and young people have participated in the program.
