Concert: Flora and Fauna of Vaasa

The flora and fauna of Finland-Swedish Vasa come to Blockparty at Lilla torget with their sharp mix of indie pop, Ostrobothnian melancholy and with lyrics that hit straight into the soft life of today.

Since their 2015 debut album Släkt med Lotta Svärd, which featured Iris Viljanen, the trio from Ostrobothnia has established itself as one of the most idiosyncratic and acclaimed bands in the Nordic region. Members Mattias Björkas, Tina Kärkinen and Daniel Ventus create music where razor-sharp social observations meet everyday recognition.

The band’s low-key intensity, poetic realism and uncompromising integrity have earned them a loyal audience on both sides of the Baltic Sea. Anyone who gives a damn about bands like Franska Trio, Mattias Alkberg or Ellen Sundberg should not miss this summer evening at Lilla torget.

Vasa’s flora and fauna sing out literary tales of frustrating relationships, failures and small moments of solace. Over all this rests a sense of the spirit of the place, resting in the Ostrobothnian soil from which the band, somewhat contradictorily, both draws strength and tries to break away.

At Blockparty on Lilla torget on July 4, a concert awaits with Ostrobothnian indie pop that both shakes and embraces, a low-key fragile and completely unique fauna.

We aim for a magical evening under the stars. Unless the weather permits, the concert will be played indoors in our premises.
