About the Performance
Welcome to an afternoon where we’ll celebrate Finland’s Independence Day together with culture, music, and fellowship. The Ursula Choir from the Finnish congregation of the Church of Sweden will perform Finnish songs, while the Linné Quintet from Musik i Uppland will perform music for brass quintet, including excerpts from Jean Sibelius’s symphonic poem *Finlandia*.
During the afternoon, author Lars Sund—known for his award-winning Jakobstad Trilogy—will also give a talk, and Sinikka Delslind will read poetry. We’ll be serving afternoon coffee, and there will be arts and crafts activities for the kids. The event is free and open to everyone, but tickets must be reserved in advance via ukk.se or at the UKK box office.
About Finland’s Independence Day
Finland’s national day is called Independence Day, as it was on December 6, 1917, that Finland declared its independence from Russia.
In Sweden, the day is celebrated by and for everyone with roots in Finland, particularly the Swedish-Finnish minority. Finnish is one of Sweden’s national minority languages, and the Municipality of Uppsala is part of the Finnish administrative region.
Presented by the City of Uppsala in collaboration with the Swedish-Finnish Language and Cultural Association in Uppsala—Rusukki, the Church of Sweden, and Uppsala Konsert & Kongress.
Anna Heikkinen & Längtans Kapell: Satumaa – The Land of Fairy Tales
The celebration continues in Hall B with Anna Heikkinen & Längtans Kapell: Satumaa – The Land of Fairy Tales, which offers an atmospheric musical journey filled with longing, warmth, and Finnish melodies. The concert is a separate event, so don’t forget to buy a ticket!
